Start accepting credit cards online with a merchant account
To accept credit cards online, you will need these three things:
- A business checking account
- A merchant account
- An online software gateway
The business checking account can be set up with any bank you choose.
You have two choices for the next requirements:
- Merchant account and software gateway provided by the same company: Some card processors,
for example CardService, will provide you with both
the merchant account and software gateway.
- Merchant account provided by your bank and a software gateway provided through another
company: You can have your bank set up a "Merchant account" and then sign up for a software
gateway such as Verisign's Payflow Pro. In this example,
you would provide Verisign with your merchant account number when you sign up.
